Veteran’s Benefits

Many people who qualify for Veterans benefits include wartime veterans (UP TO $2019 a month) and surviving spouses of veterans (UP TO $1094 a month)  as well.  These benefits can be used to pay for home care, assisted living, or nursing home care.  Since many people are unaware that they are eligible for government assistance, we can help families and loved ones better understand their eligibility as well as long term care options.

Are you eligible for veterans pension benefits:

If you are veteran who has served one day during a wartime period, or are a widow of a wartime veteran and you are paying out-of-pocket medical or care expenses, you may be eligible for a veterans pension benefit.

To be eligible, you must need assistance with some of the following:  eating, bathing, dressing, undressing, medication or taking medication.  It also includes persons who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity.  Assisted care in an assisted living facility also qualifies.

Note that this is a benefit designed to aid families with Veterans or surviving spouses who need additional monies to help care for ailing parents or loved ones.  It is not dependent upon service-related injuries.

It is often overlooked in cases in which the Veteran is independent but has an ill spouse. If the ill spouse has significant medical  expenses, those expenses could deplete the couples’ monthly income, in which case the Veteran could file a claim with an ill spouse.
